The Valley of Achor is My Door of Hope

Hosea 2:15:  And I will give her her vineyards from thence, and the valley of Achor for a door of hope: and she shall sing there, as in the days of her youth, and as in the day when she came up out of the land of Egypt

When a host of troubles tumble over into our lives, our candle of hope can be snuffed out, and we could sit in silent darkness, with no light of hope on the horizon, a very difficult place to be in.

Recently, in India, there were terrible dust storms, floods, and thunderstorms that uprooted trees, hit and ravaged places, and took many lives. COVID has stolen many lives.  In the pain and sorrow of the loved ones who lost their families and friends, I was praying for them, for comfort, yet realizing there is sorrow without hope, and that sorrow comes without hope in God. God gives hope and comfort in life’s storms because He is the God of all comfort and hope in storms…Our hope comes when we turn to God and then He transforms our situations!

Meditating on hope, I am sharing an earlier meditation that I wrote a year back when it struck me how powerful hope is.  We often ignore HOPE, but God revolutionized me with a new thought on HOPE.  The Valley of Achor becomes our DOOR FOR HOPE.  This means, in bad times, tough times, and difficult places, God is actually working deep within us to raise up hope, and in this hard place called the Valley of Achor which looks so dismal and dry, stormy and raging, is actually the place that God prepares us for new work in our lives.  He deepens spiritual truth into our lives, prepares us for greater things and finally opens an open Door to take us to a wonderful place of new beginnings where learn to become overcomers in every situation.

So when we are in a trial, and hope rises within us finally, God will not defer our hopes but open a new door.  Proverbs 13:12  Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.  It is God’s desire that our hopes are not deferred, but He does fulfill our longings abundantly, like a tree of life overflowing with goodness. Only Hope takes us on..discouragement is the absence of hope…so we need Hope and Strength every single day!
